Why We Named Our Plumbing Company Yellowstone

Josh Chasteen, Updated , 3 min read

The name Yellowstone didn't come from a TV show. It came from a family trip, a real decision, and 20 years of trade experience. Here's the story behind it.

It's not named after a TV show. Here's where Yellowstone really came from.

People ask me all the time where the name came from. Most assume it was a TV show. It wasn't. The name came from one of the most important moments of my life, a two-week family RV trip in the summer of 2024 that changed the direction of everything.

The moment

We were camping inside Yellowstone National Park. Completely unplugged. No distractions, just the park, the family, and a lot of open sky. It was there, sitting with my wife, that we had the real conversation: it's time. Time to stop playing it safe. Time to bet on ourselves. Time to build something of our own.

Starting a plumbing company wasn't a random idea. It was something I'd wanted for a long time. I'd spent 20 years in the trade, learning from one of the best companies in the Valley. I paid my dues. I learned the work, learned how to treat customers the right way, learned what a great company actually looks like from the inside. And eventually, I knew I wanted to take all of that and build something that reflected my own standard.

"It's time. Time to stop playing it safe. Time to bet on ourselves. Time to build something of our own."

The name

Standing in Yellowstone, something clicked. You look around that place and it's powerful in a way that's hard to put into words. Everything is happening underground. Pressure building. Geysers erupting. Water moving through the earth in systems you can't see, but you know are there.

That's plumbing. Plumbing is hidden behind walls, underground, in the attic. And when something goes wrong, it doesn't just leak. It erupts.

That's when the name hit: Yellowstone Plumbing and Drains.

But it was never just a cool name. Yellowstone represents strength, nature, pressure, systems, and power. That's how I wanted to run this company. Not just fixing pipes, but protecting homes. Showing up, solving problems, and taking care of people, the right way, every time.

The Plumbing Rangers mindset. Show up. Solve problems. Take care of people. Do it the right way. That's not a slogan, it's the standard we hold ourselves to on every single call, whether it's a dripping faucet or a flooded slab.

From a decision to four trucks

Summer 2024Family RV trip to Yellowstone National Park. The conversation that started it all.
December 2024Yellowstone Plumbing & Drains officially opens. One truck, one vision, a lot on the line.
TodaySeven employees. Four trucks on the road. Growing on the strength of customer referrals across the East Valley.

Starting a business is not easy. There's risk, pressure, and uncertainty at every turn. We went in knowing that. What we didn't fully expect was how fast word would spread. The referrals came faster than we anticipated. Customers trusting us, then sending their friends and family our way. That tells me one thing: we're doing something right.

We show up. We communicate. We do quality work and we stand behind it. That's it. No complicated formula.

What Yellowstone stands for

  • Strength. 20 years of trade experience behind every job we take on.
  • Honesty. Straight answers, fair prices, no upselling what you don't need.
  • Community. Built in the East Valley, for the East Valley. Our customers are our neighbors.
  • Standard. Owner-operated means Josh's name is on every truck and every job.

At the end of the day, this isn't just about plumbing. It's about building something for our family and for our community. Creating opportunities and a place where people actually want to be, whether that's working here or choosing us to protect their home.

So when people ask where the name came from, the answer is simple: it's not just a name. It's a moment, a decision, and a commitment to doing things differently.

We're just getting started.
