Drain Cleaning Cost in Arizona: $88 Special to $496

Josh Chasteen, Updated , 4 min read

A standard drain clearing at Yellowstone is $88. When it's more than a simple clear, our customers paid $214 to $496, based on 42 jobs in the last 12 months. If the camera shows the pipe itself is the problem, a drain repair ran $934 to $1,818 across 47 jobs. Angi's national average for drain cleaning is $246.

What drives the price

What changesWhy it moves the price
Which drainA bathroom sink is a short run. A kitchen line is longer and greasier. A main line to the street is the longest and the messiest
How stopped it isSlow is easier than fully backed up. Standing sewage in a tub means the main line, and that's a different job
AccessA cleanout outside is quick. No cleanout means pulling a toilet or going through the roof vent
The toolCable for a clog, jetting for buildup. Jetting costs more and lasts longer when buildup is the cause
What the camera findsA clean pipe with one clog is the $88 job. Scale, roots, or a belly is a repair conversation

Angi's national range is $147 to $352 for most people. Our $88 covers a standard clearing. The tech confirms on site what it covers before starting, and if it's going to be more, you hear the number first.

Arizona factors

Hard water changes what's inside the pipe. Chandler averages 16.5 grains per gallon, Mesa runs 12 to 22, and Gilbert sits at 8 to 10. In older cast iron drains, that mineral builds a rough layer on the pipe wall that grabs paper and grease. Once it's there, cabling clears the drain and the crust catches the next load. That's the drain that gets on a first name basis with a plumber, and the fix is jetting the crust off, not clearing it a fifth time.

Newer homes in Gilbert and Chandler are mostly PVC, which doesn't scale. When PVC keeps clogging, the cause is usually a low spot in the line, roots finding a joint, or what's going down the kitchen sink. Worth finding out once instead of clearing it three times.

Monsoon season runs June 15 through September 30 on the National Weather Service calendar, and it's our busiest stretch for main line backups. A line that's been marginal since spring picks August to quit. If your drains have been slow for a while, deal with it before the storms.

Clear it, or find out why it clogged?

Clear it and move on when this is the first clog in a long time and there's an obvious cause. Camera it when the same drain has clogged twice this year, when two fixtures back up together, when a toilet gurgles while the washer drains, or when there's a smell you've already tried to clean. Those are main line signs, and a main line problem doesn't get better with more cabling. It gets a camera, then either jetting or a repair, and you see the footage either way.

Questions we get on this one.

Straight answers. Anything else, call or text and a person picks up.

How much does drain cleaning cost?

A standard drain clearing with us is $88. When it's more than a simple clear, the middle half of our customers paid $214 to $496 across 42 jobs in the last 12 months. Angi's national average is $246, with most people between $147 and $352.

Why does my drain keep clogging after it's cleared?

Because clearing removes the clog and leaves whatever caused it. In older cast iron that's scale on the pipe wall. In PVC it's usually a low spot holding water and grease, or roots at a joint. A camera shows which one you have, and then the fix is jetting or a repair instead of a fourth cable job.

Should I try a store-bought drain chemical first?

We'd rather you didn't. Most of them don't clear a real blockage, they sit in the pipe, and then our tech is working in caustic standing water. If the drain is fully stopped, a plunger or a hand auger is the safe first try. If it's slow, call.

Do you put a camera in the line every time?

Not every time. A first time kitchen clog from something that went down the disposal doesn't need one. A repeat clog, a main line backup, or two fixtures backing up together does, because at that point you're paying to find the cause, not the symptom. We'll tell you which one you have before we do it.

What does a drain repair cost if cleaning doesn't fix it?

When a drain call turned into a repair, the middle half of our customers paid $934 to $1,818 across 47 jobs in the last 12 months. That covers things like a broken section of pipe, a bad joint, or a belly in the line. You'd see the camera footage and the written price before we started.
